Kitsune — an original novel series by wicked-fate
‘Kitsune’ — The first novel in the Kitsune series (full series details)
Humanity has been at war with their genetically-engineered creations, the Arkanians, for more than fifteen years. Made from a combination of specifically derived animal and human DNA, the arks seek to destroy their previous oppressors and avenge the mass slaughter of their species after they became dangerous and expendable. In 2039, the war changes for both sides as they are caught by an explosive attack that sweeps through the southern sector without mercy.
Six hours after the firestom has passed, Captain Reece Harmon is an ordinary soldier thrust into leadership of a military base sheltering civilians and soldiers. A sweep for survivors leads him to a known ark base which has been decimated in the attack. There he finds a female from the Asianic region covered in blood that is not her own and proclaiming one thing: Don’t save me. Reece dismisses her warning and returns with her to the military base. A DNA scan reveals the survivor is not human or arkanian but something they have not seen before. Despite Dr Josh Stevens’ protests, Nevaeh Carrington, a zoologist and ark behavioural specialist, stops them from terminating the survivor. When she wakes into Nevaeh’s protective care, it is revealed she is not like any other survivor: she remembers nothing of the war, the latest attack or even her identity. Reece is the one to name her ‘Kali’.
Kali adapts quickly to her new surroundings but exhibits the curious habits of a fox while learning from the language and actions of others. This does not go unnoticed in the base and, following a brutal attack by Reece’s men on Kali where she defends herself with ark-like precision and subsequently lethal skills, Reece and Nevaeh make a choice to act as her new protectors. The internal tension is not the only problem Kali must face. Arks are searching for her and will stop at nothing to bring her back to Griffin. The lion-derivative original arkanian and leader of the southern region arks knows Kali is the only one to stop the burgeoning civil war between the different ark clans. He forces one of Reece’s men, Sergeant James Theron, who was attacked and infected with arkanian DNA years earlier, to help bring Kali to him.
As the arks move closer to capturing Kali, she begins to remember things about her true identity that frighten her. One of the things she remembers is Caleb, the wolf-derivative arkanian partner who has been watching over her since her arrival at the human military base. Nevaeh approaches Caleb and finds out he is willing to help Kali in any way he can even though he knows she is not the same as before. He has seen that Kali and Reece are growing closer every day and she has become protective of Nevaeh and a young orphan boy named Harrison. She is no longer Miho: the fierce assassin with a grudge against humanity for murdering her parents who were instrumental in creating the arks using Miho’s DNA. But Kali is still a true Kitsune at heart and when Griffin threatens everything she now loves, she must embrace the side she desperately wants to forget.
Kali now knows why she told Reece not to save her: she is the one who began the war. With Nevaeh’s life on the line and Reece transforming into something he was always meant to be, Kali must confront Griffin and change the course of the human and arkanian war forever.

I think we need a name! Like Strike Force.
Kali: “Miho destroyed everything she touched. I can’t be that person anymore. I want to show the world that arks and humans can live together. I need to be better than… better than her.”
Reece: “You are, Kali. And I’m gonna help you, yeah?”
